My practice explores the notion of the landscape image, its manifestation in relation to the exhibition site, and the histories that surround it and that perpetuate its visual and theoretical modes. The work engages with technologies of vision, primarily derived from linear perspective, and the limits these impose on the experience of sight and of landscape. I explore the tensions between affect and information that exist within two-dimensional representations of three-dimensional space, what the co-option of visual experience implies culturally and ideologically, and how the materiality of the forms produced impacts on the illusory effects they create.

I completed an MA in painting at the Slade in 2007, and then went on to complete a practice-related PhD in 2017, supervised by Dr Joy Sleeman, Professor Alison Wright and Lisa Milroy RA. I received the Clare Winsten Memorial Award and the Gordon Luton Award for Fine Art in 2007, and in 2011 was awarded the Threadneedle Prize for Painting and Sculpture. Solo shows include the Sassoon Gallery, Folkestone (2018), the Slade Summer School exhibition series (2007 and 2013) and the Slade Research Centre (2008), Man&Eve Gallery, London (2008), Volta New York (2010), Cabin Gallery, London (2014), and recently within the context of the HSBC landscape collection (2016-7). Group shows include New Contemporaries (2006), the John Moores Painting Prize (2010) and the Jerwood Drawing Prize - in 2005, and as Simson&Volley in 2012.
